It also changes the ifd1thumbnailoffset tag value (why?)įrom this it would seem that the Resizer problem relates to either the ifd1:compression tag (even though exiftool shows it correctly) or the ifd1:thumbnailoffset tag, or some relationship between them. It allows the image to be resized with Resizer (yay!). Using exiftool to explicitly set ifd1:compression to its current value ( exiftool -ifd1:compression=JPEG filename.jpg) does two things: The Thumbnail related tags are unwriteable individually using exiftool. P preserves the file modification date and time.Īfter some detailed investigation today, I've narrowed the problem down the ifd1 group of tags ( Compression, Thumbnail Offset, Thumbnail Length and Thumbnail Image). If omitted, backup copies of the original images will be created in the same folder. overwrite_original_ causes the original images to be overwritten. The Unsafe tag is a shortcut for unsafe EXIF tags in JPEG images which are not normally copied. This technique can be used in JPEG images to repair corrupted EXIF information which otherwise could not be written due to errors. exif:all= -tagsfromfile -all:all -unsafe rebuilds all EXIF meta information from scratch in an image. I have the same problem, which has been around for as long as I can remember, way before Brice Lambson's excellent resizer was moved to Microsoft Powertoys. Image Resizer fails to reduce the image 📷 Screenshots I would hope that Image Resizer would resize the file, I guess :-) ❌ Actual result I have never had a problem before with any viewer or editor handling a JPG file.

Stepping through Windows Photos is far from ideal because image gets a quality reduction. Image Resizer was able to resize the photo saved from Windows Photos. Opened the file in Windows Photos, went into Edit and then saved a copy. Same result when I tried to use Image Resizer on the file saved by Irfanview. Open the JPG file in Irfanview (free image viewer with some editing/resizing capabilities) and then saved it from there. Image Resizer gives dialog box "Can't resize the following pictures.Unexpected property type or value.". right-click resulting JPG and choose "Resize pictures" (I tried all the default sizes). 
export from a RAW file using ON1 Photo RAW as sRGB JPG file. 📝 Provide detailed reproduction steps (if any) They were exported from a RAW file using my editor (ON1 Photo RAW). I have some (what I think) normal sRGB Jpg images that Image Resizer refuses to resize, throwing up an error message "Unexpected property value or type".
